Illusion Show - A Life in Magic - David Bamberg - The autobiography of David Bamberg records the adventurous life and perceptive observations of one of the last great traveling showmen. Bamberg was born in England in 1904. His father was the legendary Okito. As a small boy, David came to the United States with his parents to play the Orpheum circuit. David's account of his boyhood provides intimate portraits of magical showmen of the period, including Houdini, Thurston and others. By the age of 20, David was already an experienced showman, with a tour of American vaudeville behind him. In 1929, he opened in Buenos Aires, Argentina, under the name of Fu Manchu. The next 35 years of his life were spent touring Latin America and Spain. He became one of the most admired performers in the Spanish speaking world.

David Bamberg's book offers a remarkably human account of a life devoted to theatrical illusion. Completed in 1965, it is written in a candid, conversational style that reflects the personality of the author. An introduction by Robert Parrish and an essay by the magician's son, Robert Bamberg, add to the reader's understanding of the remarkable showman and the era in which he lived. Hardbound; 368 pages; 34 photos.
